IT’S ALL GOOD BY JOHN SINCLAIR
CD RELEASE SET FOR CANNABIS CUP 2004
(Amsterdam, October 28, 2004)—Legendary American poet/activist John Sinclair, presently based in Amsterdam, is set to release his 11th CD, IT’S ALL GOOD, to coincide with the 2004 Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam November 21-25.
One-half of IT’S ALL GOOD features Sinclair’s verse accompanied by the popular Dutch hip-hop duo Lange Frans & Baas B from a session recorded in Amsterdam in late 2002. The other half of the CD comes from a “live” radio broadcast by John Sinclair & His Blues Scholars featuring MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer and a Detroit horn section recorded by KXLU-FM in Los Angeles in August 1997.
“For some reason these two quite disparate sessions seemed to go together pretty well both musically and textually,” Sinclair muses, “so I combined them to make this album. The selections were issued previously on three different albums now out of print, and I wanted to keep them alive for a while longer because they’re some of my favorite works.”
The title track, a paean to the joys of marijuana use and the trials and tribulations of the victims of the American War on Drugs, was composed in honor of Sinclair’s appointment as High Priest of the 1998 Cannabis Cup. The poet is backed up by Amsterdam rappers Lange Frans & Baas B, who provided the music track and the backing vocals on the chorus, rapped in Dutch and produced the session with Sinclair.
The Blues Scholars session includes the poet’s arrangement and passionate delivery of a Charles Neville text titled “History 101” to music by Wayne Kramer and trumpeter Charles Moore, who also contributed the improvised setting for Sinclair’s four-part “Homage to John Coltrane” suite. Saxophonists Buzzy Jones and Craig Stuart are in the forefront throughout, while bassist Paul Ill and drummer Michael Voelker provide faultless rhythmic support.
IT’S ALL GOOD was produced by John Sinclair for Big Chief Records. The cover design is an original construction by poet/ collagist Mark Fisher of INIUSA.
A CD Release Party for IT’S ALL GOOD will be hosted by John Sinclair at the 420 Café in Amsterdam on Sunday, November 21, from 6:00–8:00 pm. For more information, contact
